A Daily Silicone Hydrogel Lens for Myopia Management
Be Free® Day lenses are now available at Golden Vision Optometry! Be Free® Day is a daily disposable, silicone hydrogel soft contact lens engineered specifically for childhood myopia management. Built on the patented multistep optical design from the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI), the lens is created to do three things at once: keep vision sharp, stay comfortable from morning to night, and support long-term ocular health.
Ask your optometrist at Golden Vision Optometry whether Be Free® Day is the right fit for your child.
How Does Be Free® Day Work?
Most myopia lenses guide eye growth by changing where peripheral light lands inside the eye. Be Free® Day does this through two complementary mechanisms working together rather than a single approach.
At the center of the lens, a treatment zone delivers on-axis defocus that adapts to a broad range of pupil sizes, so children get reliable correction whether they’re reading up close or looking across a room. Surrounding that, a peripheral treatment zone introduces peripheral defocus — the signal that helps slow the elongation of the eye that drives nearsightedness forward.
What sets Be Free® Day apart is how it moves between these zones. Instead of the sharp, stepped jumps in power found in conventional concentric-ring multifocal lenses, the multistep design uses a series of small, gradual transitions. These gentle shifts in power are what allow children to see clearly and comfortably while their myopia is being managed in the background.
A Lens Built for Clear, Comfortable Vision
Because the power changes across the lens are subtle rather than abrupt, children tend to notice fewer of the visual side effects that can come with multifocal optics — things like glare, halos around lights, and ghosted images. Smoother optics generally mean a cleaner, more natural visual experience throughout the day.
The lens material plays a role too. Be Free® Day uses an advanced biomimetic surface designed to behave like the eye’s own tear film. The result is better wettability, stronger resistance to deposits, and all-day comfort that helps children actually want to keep their lenses in.
Designed With Eye Health in Mind
Silicone hydrogel matters when a child is wearing lenses every day. Be Free® Day (Toufilcon B) carries a Dk oxygen permeability of 91 — substantially higher than many other daily disposable myopia lenses on the U.S. market, which often sit in the 20s. More oxygen reaching the cornea supports healthier wear over time, which is why a large majority of eye care professionals consider daily disposable silicone hydrogel lenses the safest everyday choice for their patients.
Add in the convenience of a single-use, daily disposable design — fresh lenses each morning, nothing to clean or store overnight — and you have a wearing routine that’s both simple and hygienic for younger patients.
Can My Child Wear Be Free® Day?
Be Free® Day is designed for children who are managing myopia and are ready to take on a daily lens routine. Soft daily disposables like these are often a comfortable starting point for kids, since there’s no overnight wear and no cleaning involved.
The biggest factors in success aren’t age alone — they’re a child’s hygiene habits and genuine willingness to wear contacts. You know your child best, so you’re often the best judge of whether they’re ready to handle insertion, removal, and the daily routine responsibly. When a child is motivated, the adjustment tends to go smoothly.
Encouragingly, in evaluation data more than 70% of children reported no visual blur at all during their first adaptation to Be Free® Day. Among the smaller group who did notice some initial blur, it typically cleared up within a single day.
If you’re not sure whether your child is a good candidate, the team at Golden Vision Optometry can help you decide. We’ll walk through your child’s readiness and lifestyle to figure out whether Be Free® Day is the right match.
What the Results Show
In a comparative on-eye evaluation of myopia contact lenses in pediatric patients, Be Free® Day performed strongly across the measures that matter to families:
- Children gave the lenses an overall visual satisfaction score of 9.23 out of 10
- 8 out of 10 patients preferred Be Free® Day over the comparison lenses, most often citing clearer distance vision and better comfort
- 100% of parents said they would recommend the lenses to other parents
